| If you've never experienced a bar where there is absolute silence, come here. I could hear my pen scratching in my notebook. The beer is the typical for the area brown Fränkisches Vollbier, but I found it watery and not worth drinking. |

| One of the very traditional breweries. Hans Senger is one of the old-fashioned brewers, sticking to the traditional brewing methods, still using a coolship (I hope this is correct english), where almost all other breweries have abandoned it. Also one of the very rare places where beer is still dispensed on gravity.
An absolute gem! |

| This brown, powerful beer can be very good. And the pub is a gem. But sometimes, the beer can be a little phenolic. I don't mind, it's a classic anyway. |

| If you had shown me a photo of this uninteresting looking "livingroom" that serves as the brewery tap, I might have balked at going out of my way to visit it. Thank God no one did. Perhaps the best Lager in all of Franconia. I now visit that livingroom every chance I get. |

| A very small tap room, with 4 tables. Stark, plain, but friendly....& very quiet. The bier was amber colored with a good flavor. |

Now this is a unique place. Four long tables make up the pub, easily filled by blue-collar workers working nearby. There is one beer on gravity cask, a well-balanced, flavorful, very quenching Völlbier. The people here have a fun tradition of knocking on every occupied table when they get in, a gesture of salute which took me by surprise at first. They do the same when they leave as well, so be ready to do it yourself when you leave after your satisfying pint!
Vollbier (tap review):
-Majestic head thrones atop the copper clarity, designing impressive lacing.
-Convincing caramel maltiness agrees with the earthy, resinous hoppiness in both aroma and flavor.
-An embracing herbal hop bitterness happily stays, producing a drying effect.
-The soft, prickly carbonation renders a great mouthfeel.
-Lovely, clean, drinkable authenticity from the gravity cask; a regional standard it seems. |

| Truly one of the most amazing beers I've ever had. Very small, quiet, and no frills pub. Make sure to knock on every occupied table when you enter. |

| Well, I told friends about this place so they insisted I take them on our recent visit. They were not dissapointed. The beer is superb, the locals are a joy to drink with, the woman running the ausschank is as warm and friendly as can be, and knocking on the tables when entering and leaving is highly recommended.
This place is a real Franconian gem. |

| Very nice little brewery which was absolutely crowded when we stepped in, as it was barbecue day. The beer is earthy as if the water came from a medieval stone well. Interesting indeed! |

| Drei Kronen in Schesslitz is absolutely one of my favourites. Good beer in a small, family run brewery.
Basic brewery tap, good beer, good food.
The history of a whole range of Drei Kronen breweries starts here, a photocopy of an old licence to brew beer is displayed in the tap room.
Don't miss the Weizenbock!

| There are only few beer drinking spots in the world with such an old-world atmosphere as Drei Kronen. And the beer used to be among the softest and most elegant in Franconia. But I have the feeling that the hop character has decreased. If it's true, it's a pity. |

| A friendly place with very fine beer. If you're in the area and you don't stop in.....it's just unthinkable. |

| Is this the 1308 Bier in Strassgiech? Owned by Hans Gerner? Bought by a South African Brewery and then reaquired by the Gerner Family. Excellent beer. |

| Amber coloured pale Lager, complex, full bodied brew. The Brauereigaststätte makes You feel living in the 19th century....... |

| Well worth the bus journey from Bamberg. I was going to try all the beers but the lager was so good I just couldn't bring myself to change. |

We waited for the place to open up for dinner after their midday break (from 2 to 5), but at 5:15 there was still no sign of anyone inside. The door was open though, so we walked about in the schwemm until the matron showed up. She looked obviously worried that we wanted to eat something (the lights had remained closed in the Gaststätte), but luckily I was only there for a taste of their ungespundetes Lagerbier, otherwise known as Schäazer Lagerbier. So the grandmotherly matron set me up in the yard at the back of the schwemm, between the pub/restaurant and the actual brewery. The Lagerbier was rich and very drinkable, a very good example of Franconian brewing knowledge. I wouldn?t mind coming back here to get a bottle of their Weizenbock, or just to sit in the small Gaststätte and actually get a better feel for the place.
Lagerbier (tap review):
-A huge head sits atop the golden transparence, receding to a veil.
-Creamy cereal delicately attract and deliver what they had promised.
-Straw and toasted malts are carefully carved.
-Moist passages encourage drinkability, but this one goes a little too far I think.
-Again, the soft carbonation helps the mouthfeel.
-Aftertaste is shy, with some supporting, wooden hops.
-Maltiness evolves into delicate honey sweetness with time.
-Another Franconian lager which grows on you the deeper you get into your pint. |

| Had dinner and a couple of beers at this nice, simple, old style pub. The food was very inexpensive, filling, and quite delicious. Just like homecooking. The beer was also very good. Friendly service too.

| The beers are still available but are apparently now being brewed in Bayreuth -- this is secondhand info from someone in a drinks shop in Scheßlitz. The tap was closed when I was there so I couldn't check further. |

| The tap-room is one of my favourites. It's very much 19th century. But the beer was a normal, bland "Einheitsbier". |

| Schmitt Bräu Jura Hell has a medium malty nose and a slight hop undertone; a light maltiness up front yields to a more pronounced hoppiness in the finish. Nice golden color. Overall not bad as contract brews go, but also not worth seeking out if it requires significant effort. |
