Not sure I follow the issue with "microbore feeder pipes". There are hot and cold water lines. A mixer tap comes with corresponding lines to connect them to. Why isn't it just that simple?

For clarity, I wasn't bemoaning the lack of sink plugs in general, rather, the lack of rod-controlled ones. Which "our" new Broadstairs flat is blessedly equipped with, thankfully.
