Overpriced...what the market will bear

Too much money, not enough sense!

I may have told this story before apologies if I have, as the old memory is not what it was.

Many moons ago, when I was just a nipper and drinking mild or bitter at around a shilling a pint (roughly £0.05/pint), someone opened a wonderful new venue in Manchester: the Loewenbrau Keller - and, yes, it was in a cellar, which deluded me for decades after about bier kellers.  Anyway, many of my contempories went head over heels for this wonderful new beer and demanded that I try it.  Unfortunately, it was 7/6d/pint (roughly £0.30).  You will not be surprised to hear that I never went near the place.

As Andrew H said: Emperor's new clothes and all that.

I've got a feeling that it's now some kind of bar or eating place.  You might know it, Nick: coming up from Piccadilly station, it's on the right immediately before you get into Piccadilly itself.  I'll try to remember to take a look when I'm in Manchester in a couple of weeks.
