| For some reason, I hadn't visited Forchheim proper (ie outside Annafest) for a while. At the end of last year I came twice. The first time alone and the second time with my Schafskopf friends for our annual Christmas outing. Now I've often heard and often experienced (at least I think) that the draft beer in Neder is a little inconsistent and is supposed to be somewhat secondary to the experience of the pub. But in those previous times, and also tonight as I sit in crazy neder, being bombarded with questions from intrigued locals, it's been excellent. With my card friends, we spent an evening here and had 10 beers each. We all commented on the outstanding quality of the beer. Each time I've been recently it's been excellent. It may be the new young brewer, but I'm not sure. Incidentally, I had football training tonight indoors in Forchheim and I came by train, so took the advantage of drinking a few in neder. To be honest, I wanted to be left alone, but I got talking to a very pleasant chap about beer and Forchheim and Franconia. Now, I'm very humble about my German, but he commented that my German was excellent. It's always a pleasure to hear those words. It's one of the biggest and most rewarding and yet exasperating experiences ever, and it's still got a way to go, but in 4 years I'm independent. I can understand everything, and I can say everything I want to. It's a good feeling. Neder's great. And I hear hebendanz will open again next month. |
