Can we just separate IPA and 'American beers'? On the one hand someone says "I don't have much experience of American beer" and in the same breath make sweeping statements about the whole US beer scene and it's apparent takeover of the world. Yes IPAs and hop froward beers are more common now, and are influencing styles here in Europe in a big way, but there are many many other styles brewed in the US that aren't in that category. Many historic styles not really brewed anymore in their home countries (sure, they may not be historically accurate but I'm illustrating the diversity). Lager only breweries. Fantastic stouts and barley wines. And so in. . I agree that the British beer market is hop overloaded, but it's very simplistic to just blame the US. Americans aren't brewing the stuff (odd exceptions aside), nor are they drinking the stuff (again) in Britain. It's demand. And no matter how much you think you know or how much you want to help people 'understand', you can't tell people what they should drink. |
