Ridiculously expensive Kellerbier |

I have to say that $12 for a beer of that relative rarity is actually not as ridiculous as it sounds. What would you pay for a good local beer, say a pale ale at 6.0%? $7? $8? Depends where you live, and that's exactly the Barry's post above in inadvertently makes. You're drinking beer from a very small Franconian producer in one of the most expensive pubs in Massachusetts. I think you answered your own question. US beers on tap in the UK were/are exorbitant, partly due to currency anomalies, but mainly because people would pay it. Some are worth it I would say, some not. Andy's beers are good, but not spectacular in Franken (nothing is spectacular, it's one of many well brewed beers that should be enjoyed here, for the right price, not exported across the sea, but I digress). I'm guessing they are plugging the rarity. $12 vs a flight and hotels? Seems reasonable to me. I would pay that for a bells exhibition stout or something similar. |
