Yes, I had heard the idea that there would have been a smokiness to beers in the past. I would have thought by 1900 that beers that were smoky would be identified as such, but maybe not. The poster actually identifies a beer as Gose (No. 5) and mentions Leipzig, not Goslar. I can't make out what the first word in the phrase under Gose is. Can anyone? |
