Czech wheat beers... |

Nowadays nearly every big brewery in CZ brews wheat beer as well. Krusovice (owned by Heineken), Gambrinus (owned by PU; they call it Fenix), Starobrno (again Heineken), Lobkowitz group, ... Also majority of micro breweries do brew Weizen (in small percentage bottom-fermented, but usually top-fermented). Quality is changing from time to time. My personal best in CZ is Svaty Norbert (Prague's monastery brewery) Weizen (only during summer) and Matuska's. Similar, quality of Weizen in upper Franconia is also not that constantly good, I always prefer south-Bavarian weizens. With one exception: Roppelt's weizen is one of the best (if not the best) I have ever tried. |
