I wrote quite a lot about this tiny brewery here. Okay, do it again. The reason for the strange opening times is, that the brewery isn't run by a family as mentioned by Jeff Romain but by Herrn Wolf only. The whole thing - brewery, pub, hostel, Angus meat trade - is run by one single guy. That means he's often busy delivering meat or taking care of his Angus cattle. That again means you have to call him, making sure he's opening the pub. But then: The food is very good and the beer is fantastic (Dark Lager, Pils and a seasonal Bock). I would rate it much higher than average. I really recommend visiting the place as long as it still exists. The brewery itself is a living museum. I'm not sure Herr Wolf is malting himself. Probably he doesn't. There was a question about which breweries are malting: Ah, of course the Unbehauen family of Spielbach are malting themselves and only their own cultivated barley. |
