Aye! The Commercial had only two on, a Bitter and a Stout from nearby Millstone, guess which one I went for (only one, didn't stay for t' other): Then over to the Britannia, with it's Marston's beer, which used to be called "Burton Bitter" (or equiv), and which was indeed a bit "snatchy", though I think the barrel had turned already, because there was a touch of vinegar. Which I mentioned to the landlady, a non-drinker, who said she would look into it and take it off if needed. (I also had said that I wasn't sure, because I'm not expert in the Burton Snatch.) There was also 6X to the left of the Holy Grail: But the real gem was the Fleece, after a brisk uphill walk (not nearly as hard as the GBG suggests, thanks to the excellence of XXL Fitnessstudio here in Erlangen over the last year, maybe 150m elevation gain over 800m), whose new (3 years?) landlord is passionate about cask beer and good lager (relatively speaking, living in Franconia), who put in all but one of the beer engines since taking over, and the one that was there before hadn't been used in years. A couple of halves and 2 or 3 thirds (!) went down quickly, before the descent back to the station, from which my shin muscles are still sore: That's Mobberly Brewhouse; I only drank a bit of the one on the left, as it had the "waxiness" I can't stand in some beers, more typical from down here than up there. As you can see, a well-sparkled tour of Mossley. Pubs 3, 4 & 5 of 15 on Saturday. Might have been more, if not for the pesky beer fest (and caring for a thoroughly bladdered & legless mate after leaving the fest...thanks to Lees Harvest Ale & Dutch beer tasting session he went to).
