Döner coming From London to Bamberg

Do the British really spell "pita bread" as "pitta bread"?  Do they pronounce it accordingly, not "PEE-tah" as we pronounce it in the US? Also, is Döner mispronounced "do-ner" in the UK (pesky umlauts)?   Like Gyro is mispronounced in the US?
