Thanks, Nick. After German definition a Lager is a bottom fermented beer with 11% to 14% Stammwürze. In Franconia it's mostly described as a bottom fermented Vollbier that's very low in hops. So, Märzen could probably count as a lager beer, but Franconian brewers most commonly use the term for their amber coloured malty beers. E. g. Först in Drügendorf or Merklein in Stettfeld. Sometimes it's used for rich blonde malty Vollbier as well but that style's not so common in the region. I might be wrong but that's the best way I could describe it. |
