BJCP on Kellerbier |

Kind of begs the question about titles and definitions. If a Vollbier can be a Kellerbier because it is served in a Keller, then anything can be Kellerbier, including a Bock, a Weizen, etc., etc. For the term Kellerbier to make sense, it needs to be a specific type of beer, which I don't think it is or ever can be. It's like the Zoigl question: can it be classified as a specific type of beer? No, it's more or less what the brewer wants it to be. With Zoigl, it is all the surrounding history and culture that defines it, so I suppose we can say the same about Kellerbier. It all makes bottled Kellerbier a bit of a farce. |
