Oh, it's not a beer fest, no. One neat thing about it is blind tasting & "judging" of the entrants of the World Beer Star Awards (or whatever the big comp is that they announce the winners of there) on the first day (right?). That's fun.

Then you just wander through the halls drinking beer at various stands, like Weyermann's, the various hop dealers' and associations' stands (Bavarian, Yank, Czech), or heaven-knows how many stands that happen to have beers from all over the place, including Czechia and Belgium. And there are a couple of stands from an outfit in England with...wait for it...real ale. Now, I've not seen Harvey's or Sam Smith's, but there have been excellent ales on over the years.

You'd have to go to one of the two of those stands without me, as the lady working one of them doesn't like me any more. I kept bringing various random people by to show them a beer engine, which they'd never heard of before. She's kind of mean. But I'm OK at the other one, which is bigger anyway.

It's very much worth a day ticket, or the entire ticket, I can't remember how much which one costs now. Yes, you see lots of tech, but that's part of the fun. One of the lesser Kölsches and Alts are there too. Ask TreinJan or Gerhard, I think they are perennial visitors. They sold me on it anyway, just a few years ago. A number of beery Niederländer descend on Bamberg for the duration, I think.
