I think we have different interpretations of 'beer knowledge'. Of course I can understand more if we're talking Americans / non Europeans who generally see Schlenkerla and that's it. But still, a little research will yield surprising results, namely that the vast majority of Bamberg beer is not smoked. Plus Michael Jacksons writings and beer hunter film covered Bamberg decades ago. Anyone who who considers themselves knowledgable about beer and puts Munich in the same bracket as Bamberg is just the same as the many ignorant tourists that believe the Hauptstadts beer scene begins and ends at the hofbrauhaus. Should know better, because as you say (and I have the same experiences), once they've visited Bamberg they love it; and come back. |
