Thanks Nick, that's very interesting. I remember meeting my namesake Alan in the Eschawo Beauvais a few years ago, when he was doing his research. Nice guy and very determined and thorough n his approach. The project sounds very interesting and is obviously great for the area. As for it being called 'Zoiglhaus', doesn't really matter, if it works. My objection to the abuse of the word is really directed at the Bayern breweries who are jumping on the bandwagon. When the term is used in genuine homage (like in the case of Gernot Wildung), it seems oK. Historical note: it is quite a few centuries since 'braurecht' was granted by the nobility. In the last few hundred years, it has been largely determined by the whereabouts of the applicant's house in a town. |
