More Bier in Erlangen

To round out a "guide" to finding good beer in Erlangen, one would have to add Café Beisl and Im Hinterhaus, both across from each other in the Hauptstraße. Beisl normally has Mahr's U and Lindenbräu on tap, but these might vary sometimes. Hinterhaus has a range from St. Georgen Bräu in Buttenheim on, normally including a rarity or two like one they brew for ??? in Pottenstein. But he also has 40+ bottled Franconian beers. Hinterhaus only opens at 18.00 though.

Whether Steinbach, the brewpub in town, is worth a visit (open from ~16.30) is worth a visit...it is in a lovely old building on the old town wall. They have a yeasty year-round Hell, typical of modern German brewpubs, as well as a rotating monthly beer, which can be interesting or even good.

Kitzmann, unfortunately, seems to have trouble keeping their lines clean, resulting in rubbery notes in numerous beers there. The food's great though, and it's another nice old building on the old town wall on the opposite side of town.

Thirst for Pils can be slaked at the two places next to Café Manhattan: draught Jever at Bogart's and the decent Lederer Pils (Tucher) at La Brasserie. All three places are good for people watching al fresco in nice weather.
