Around the turn of the millennium, Starobrno appeared in Trader Joe's shops in Oregon. (It coincided conveniently with my personal evolution from Oregonian & Belgian beer freak to lager lout back then.) 6-packs of 33 cl, IIRC, for only a few dollars. It was very well-priced, and quite full of hoppy character, also that lovely soft Czech maltiness. It was quite a hit for Mrs & me. Then we moved away (to here) and I fell out of touch with it. People have complained that it is no longer the beer it once was. Indeed I would visit the brewery tap if I ever find myself in Brno! Of course, I also used to enjoy the half-litre cans of Henninger (Frankfurt?) lager at Trader Joe's back the. I'd pour two into my Masskrug and hang around the back garden, pretending I was in the Englischer Garten or somewhere like that. |
