My wife and I stayed overnight at Hartmann back in 2008 and I have revisted twice briefly since. I found the beer there to be okay. Nothing special but I did like the dunkel. Their Felsentrunk was nothing great. Kind of watery like Juergen said. I've eaten dinner twice and have found the food to be very good. The service was a bit odd. The elderly owner Herr Hartmann tells us before we headed upstairs to our room to have a good night sleep and sleep late. So we try to sleep late and one of the employees rudely opened our door twice the next morning presumably to get us up in time for breakfast or just to get us out? This was odd since it was only about 9am when she first burst the door open. So after the second time we get up and get downstairs apparently 5 minutes too late and they tell us that we're too late to be served. The owner overhears this and calls us over to his table and invites us to join him and commands the employees to get us breakfast. We did not refuse his help and the food again was excellent. Still I would think it's worth stopping at if you haven't been before and it fits in with what you happen to be doing that day. It's a not a long walk over to Schesslitz. I've never walked to Steinfeld or Schedendorf from there. I visited Drosendorf in 2014 with some friends while we were walking the loop from there to Merkendorf and then Memmelsdorf. It's easy to get to by bus from Bamberg. I agree with what Barry said about their beers. I would say that since it's so easy to get to and a convenient place to start a walk around the area that it's worth a stop. |
