| Yes but the process was over a long period and, in some types of verb, may have pre-dated OE, eg in old Frisian. Unfortunately, surviving records of all languages prior to the invention of printing tend to be sporadic, thus much of the theory of the development of the Germanic group is exactly that: theory, though most likely to be accurate. The biggest change in English post-dated the Norman conquest but was also gradual. |
