Weekend round-up...and what's wrong with

Yes, an interesting discussion.  I looked at Fred's link to the London brewery taprooms.  Interestingly, the vast majority were outlets for keg beer.  I wonder why this should be?  Are they some kind of follow up from the 'craft keg' movement?  If you're brewing on the spot, doesn't seem to difficult to serve proper beer.  Another question: I wonder whta kind of prices they charge for drinking under a railway arch or in an industrial unit - most of the locations don't seem exactly luxurious?

Of course, another option is the micropub, an idea that so excited our friend Nick (see http://micropubassociation.co.uk/).  I haven't been through their directory to see how many (if any) have attached brewing facilites but it wouldn't be so difficult to attach a small brew plant.

One of the things that attracted me to Seinsheimer (is that correct - typing from memory?) was the relative simplicity of the brewery.  So many of the new breweries look like nuclear power plants in their complexity and are obviously designed to allow for massive expansion (and later luctrative takeovers?).  I wonder why some of the smaller Franken breweries that have closed in recent times (like Schwarzkreuz in Eggolsheim) don't just forget their big old places and invest in some modest new plant.  Maybe it's not a viable proposition or maybe they're just not interested as it's so easy to buy from another local brewery?
