Weekend round-up...and what's wrong with

You seem to be contradicting yourself a bit here, Nick?  Surely trying different things means abandoning some of the traditional methods, etc.?  Or, at least, it suggests a lack of committment to the old ways?

As you've said, you came to love British cask ale quite late in your drinking life, even causing you to divert away somewhat from your love of Kellerbier (except Roppelt's, of course!).  Why did this Damascene conversion happen?  Could it be that the British beers that you were trying were just better than those you had previously tried?

Can't speak for Andy but my situation is just the reverse: yes, for a little while in the 1960s, I (and many others) were taken in by the new, as the keg beers seemed quite exciting and different.  But I quickly realised that they weren't just different, they were inferior.  They were quickly rejected by me, at least.

And so it has continued.  In my visits to North Wales, I have sampled a fair number of new brews and none of them (or very few), IMHO, come really close to those produced by the older local breweries (I won't name them, you know who they are!).

Re your next post: why do you think that Mallinson's are producing a key keg ale?
