"Zoigl" comes to Texas? |

I generally agree with you. I don't have a problem with these folks being "inspired" by the Zoigl culture of the Oberpfalz and creating their own American version of communal brewing as best they can. Hell I've been inspired by what I've experienced in Eschawo/Neuhaus. So I can understand the romantacism about it. However I think calling it Zoigl is misleading because I'm sure that what people will be brewing there is going to be anything but that. By all means give a nod of respect and appreciation towards the Oberpfalz and thankful for the inspiration and then go out and do your thing. But it's a really silly to call it a Zoigl brewhouse and start hanging a Zoigl Stern outside the front door of your modern American brewpub. Otherwise I think what they're doing is a cool idea and hopefully it's a success and I wouldn't be surprised if we start to see this sort of thing more often in the US with the unbelievable number of breweries and new ideas popping up all over the place still. (side note: I just visited a place with a higher concentration of breweries than the Frankische Schweiz. Traverse City, Michigan. 15,000 residents and 10 breweries. Although during summer season the population quadruples but still that is a pretty impressive per capita number). |
