NO TRAINS LICHTENFELS <--> BAMBERG -- JAN - SEP 2016

If you use the DB website, you can see two options for Bamberg - Leipzig in January: one by train through Würzburg and another by bus to Lichtenfels, then onward by train to Leipzig. So, yes, the direct line to Leipzig goes through Lichtenfels.
