I was a teen when I watched it on Sunday evenings in the 70's. So, of course a lot of it I didn't grasp back then, being a youth in Minnesota, with no other real contact to England. And when I watch it now, I get some things that didn't occur to me then, even dated as they may be.

It's also interesting to hear how a couple of the troop were quite avid cask ale drinkers, being involved in CAMRA and even opening a brewery or two, IIRC.

Can't relate to doggie kibble menus, as we feed our dog his own food and bring it along as needed. The idea that a dog needs variation in its diet is not one that any vet we've dealt with agrees with. Actually the opposite: varying a dog's source of meat can be risky. They are not wolves, nor hyenas or jackals. A "gassy" dog is one with an improper diet, as we've learnt.

On Welsh beer. I just happened to look through some photos of our trip to Llandudno, Caernarfon, & elsewhere in 2010. And you're right -- lots of pump clips (how to explain what a pump clip is to a Franconian???) have no description of what the beer is, just a name and a strength. Of course, nowadays you can look beer names up with your handy Handy and get all sorts of info, including ratings within seconds. Better pubs have descriptions on the chalk board though.
