We started with Weyermann visit on Friday. I have visited a few Czech "big" malt factories, and many "floor malt" factories. Weyermann is something totally else. Producing many sorts, having robots for packing, a lot of automatized stuff... Nice. Afterwards we were invited to sample a few of their experimental beers, some extrem beers(like mint Weizen, ...), some usual styles (böhmische Dunkles, Roggenbier, ..). In overall majority of bottom-fermented beers had some kind of contamination inside (unless it was some purpose with doing bottom-fermented with Brettanomyces). Top fermented IPA was quite good, double-imperial-IPA not well balanced. Then quick lunch at Kraus @Hirschaid beergarten, with average Schnitzel, excellent Lager (Kellerbier), above-average Weizen. Then one-beer visit in St. Georgen Keller, nothing really excellent, but both Kellerbier and Weizen were good clean beers. Bitterness for Kellerbier was slightly unpleasant for me, but still OK. View from there is really great. Nice stop. Roppelt's Keller was already crowded(Friday 5pm), only few tables close to the woods were free. Damn how are you doing it - there was some many people, so many cars, and everybody was drinking a beer! :-) (here in CZ we have 0.0% alko-limit). Last one for Friday was Mönchsambach (I needed to return empty Fass). Couple of Lagers, ranging from above average to really good ones. All of them quite clean (I think we had beers from 3 Fass-es). Export Hell isn't my favourite over the time, so I just sampled from friend of mine and it was confirmed again. I also got the two bottles of Maibock as a gift there - already tried one, was excellent. Evening in Hummel and Wagner @Merkendorf was usual, I have already reported to quality of these beers last time, very good in overal. Weizen at Hummel was not so perfect as it used to be, but still very drinkable. There were nearly no guests in Wagner (because of the Fest in Schammelsdorf), so Lager Fass was empty soon and they didn't wanted to put the new one (which I understand). ============== Saturday - short stop at Göller @Drosendorf after morning shopping; both beers (Dunkel and some sort of Jubiläumsbier), not very well balanced, light presence of DMS, DA and maybe even moldy in taste. In general under-average, but not totally bad. - ungespundetes Pils in Hönig Tiefenellern was very good one. Slightly husky, but in general very drinkable. Unfortunately, Hölzlein has Urlaub these days (at least we were able to buy a few bottles for walking - the same from Reh). Going through Melkendorf, we stopped for a Seidla. Beside of quite intensive DA, it was quite good beer so we took the second one. The only other guests were another Czech couple (however staying long-term in Nuernberg, if I understood), beside of them nobody. In Krug @Geisfeld, we had I think only Lager, which was (again) excellent, or nearly outstanding. Kellerbier at both Griess and Griess Keller tasted in the same way (there was no difference between pub and Keller) and it was overall good. Rotes Pressack in Keller was fantastic. Then walking back to Knoblach Schammelsdorf, we tasted again the Lager - again very bitter, but good (I liked it somehow). The beer was on tap also in the big test in the fields above the village, where was some kind of Fest with music, Maß, many young people, and entrance of 5€, after couple of hours we have returned back to brewery and stayed there. ============== Sunday - morning stop at Wagner and Knoblach confirmed the qualities of the previous days :-) We were happy from the quality of the "Hochzeit suppe" in Knoblach, that was very good. - we were passing many breweries in direction to Fränkische Schweiz, but the only one we tried was Krug @Breitelnesau, where we like their Schnitzel. Lagerbier was in extremely good condition. I missed the Weizen (which is pity, as I had it yesterday from KEG in Prague and it was superb). - we skipped the Zoigls in Eschawo this time. Quality in past months wasn't good (or we had a bad choices/chances) so we decided not to stop. |
