| Yikes! Really, I wish I'd had the presence of mind to engage Herr Farage in conversation when he was in the CAMRA Thanet 2015 Pub of the Year Yard of Ale that evening, talking about how British schools could learn a thing from the "dual education" German system. But he was surrounded by about 4 fawners. Instead, I chatted up the two Stockportians(!) who were there on hols and diligently ignoring the celebrity event, as a couple of others were doing as well. You Britons have a funny thing about politics. When the world famous nutter politician comes calling in the pub, you either fawn about him or ignore him. No arguments ensued. Both "microlandlords" I spoke to in Broadstairs about him having visited wished that he hadn't come in. Another proper landlord was glad to hear he was at the neighbouring pub and not his! So, good signs for pub & micropub landlords there. There really are some excellent pubs in town there. One even has diffrentiated pricing for the public & private bars, something which people tell me has all but disappeared. (And they do excellent, fresh, veggie jacket taters.) Pardon me, I have to go dump this execrable Allgäuer Bockbier out the window into the stream running by below our treehouse.... |
