Yes. http://www.oberpfalzbahn.de/de/service/faq/ Not only for foreigners it is difficult to understand the concept of "Regionalbahnen" (regional railways) like Oberpfalzbahn and others (p.e. Agilis with many lines in Franconia). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regionalbahn These are private enterprises (or maybe daughter enterprises of other national railway enterprises). They can apply for lines and get these lines for some years. The Geman countries (Bavaria etc.) pay them for their services. You can buy their tickets in the same way as You can buy tickets of the Deutsche Bahn. And You can use their trains p.e. with the weekly or monthly tickets of the Deutsche Bahn or the tickets 10+ of the VGN. From the perspective of passengers, it does not matter who is running the line. In other words it's a very different system in comparision wiht the United Kingdom with their really separate railway enterprises. Deutsche Bahn and the other railway enterprises offer together an united lift offer in the view of the passengers. They compete for the money of the state(s). Indirectly they ompete also for the satisfaction ot their passengers, because the decision of the state includes also elements of cleanless, punctualily and friendliness. |
