I had visited Dublin a few times since the early 90's but never bothered to cross to the north side of the Liffey until I read Fred's blog posts about some of the pubs there and realized there are some gems like L. Mulligans, The Cobblestone (more for the trad music than the beer. Tap list is okay there but the cask ale was off - I didn't mind too much though as the music was good), The Black Sheep, and I know 3 or 4 others. One honorable mention for cask ale goes to The Palace Bar. They had Dungarven Pale Ale on cask and it was very nice and The Palace Bar is one of the classic pubs of Dublin (it was even featured in a recent film about Irish Pubs) that happens to also have good beer. It can get busy though as it's in Temple Bar. Best to go on a weeknight. There is plenty to do for us beer lovers in Dublin these days. Now I'll really be excited if we start seeing cask ale in the west. |
