Well, that's no surprise, Mosquit. After 1803 Franconia was split up by the napoleonic bureaucracy. The biggest part was given to the Wittelsbach dynasty and became part of Bavaria (the Coburg region joined Bavaria in the 1920s), Another huge part became part of what is nowadays Baden-Württemberg; known as Tauberfranken and Hohenlohe. A smaller part became part of Thuringia. Today known as Henneberg-Franken. Franconia as a cultural and tribal structure is much bigger than bavarian Franconia only. |
