Hope you didn't chug those bottles down in the train on the way, but are letting them settle & chill properly. The Colonia is one of the best beers brewed in the country, and is a "traditionelles rheinisches Bitterbier". See Ron Pattinson's writings on the subject. If I could get it less strong, as well as not so ridiculously over-priced, I wouldn't need to homebrew. The Firestone Walker 31 PA is IMO a very good example of what they call "American PA". There's a bit of a burnt note which I don't like, but at least, it's NOT overdone with crystal malt making it syrupy sweet, like the vast bulk of APAs are, and it is well hopped, if not so overly *citric*. And the Brooklyn is what I and other Yank homebrewers call "English IPA", meaning English-hopped. All three available at REWE here. (8€ for 75 cl Boon Gueze 2011/2012, too) Amazing times! |
