Yes, indeed, it's quite depressing. Just a dark-coloured beer with no real redeeming features. And then served under CO2 pressure at the Keller. And then, it's the symbol for "Kellerbier" for the world on the other side of the Atlantic. OTOH, speaking of dark beers that have come down over the years...the Chimay Bleu I'm necking on a campsite on the Flemish coast is really not the same beer it was in 1999...right? The Rodenbach Grand Cru next to it, OTOH, is almost what I recall it being from years and years ago. (Both just brought "home" from the Night Shop in Lombardsijdje, run by a very amicable chap from Pakistan.) No decent lager here on the Flemish coast, but I seem to be surviving. |
