"Speck" is in the German language also an image for richness. "Speck ansetzen" = put on weight, pile of money. Small villages have not to pay for theaters, schools and other things in the bigger city, but their inhabitants can use these institutions. Their inhabitants can work in the bigger city and pay income tax in their villages (depends on the system of the financial compensation). So some villages and also the small city Hallstadt are very rich and can invest into the development of their communities more than the city Bamberg. |
