It isn't a development. The glasses are without a Greifenklau sign. I don't know the reason for the decision of Greifenklau. Maybe i'ts only an exception on this day or on a special situation. One must distinguish two questions: - krugs vs glasses? - with vs without sign / brand? Some ideas, facts: - For Germans proper glassware is not so important as for Belgians, Americans etc. - In the view of bartenders glasses are easier to fill. You can see the amount (height) of the beer. So You get not so many complaints of guests about bad filled krugs. This was the reason for us to change from krugs to glasses at the Sandkerwa. The productivity of the bartenders is higher (10%) with glasses (beer filled per hour). - Nice, rare glasses and krugs with brands are often stolen. So Schlenkerla uses blank glasses for the guests who will drink in the street before their brewpub (in the rush hour). The rate of stealing is higher for krugs. And nobody steal neutral glasses. - If You ask for a deposit (p.e. during the Sandkerwa and other events), it's easier to ask for maybe 2 Euro deposit for a glas as for 5 Euro deposit for a krug. Some visitors / guests don't like to pay a high bill, p.e. 32 Euro for 4 beers including a deposit of 20 Euro. |
