Yes, but it should be priority in more countries. Call it cask-conditioned, unfiltered, ungespundet, or whatever, the important thing is to enjoy a product that is as natural as humanly possible, without unnecessary processing. You have explained to me the reasons why so much of US produced beer is brewery conditioned but most of the exmapnation is to do with economics - i.e. the pub or brewing maximising profit in one way or another. Of course, if a pub has 20 taps and 10 customers per night (ok, small exaggerations), it's not going to be profitable to sell cask beer. Similarly, if a pub chooses to important beer from a country thousands of miles away, cask beer is not a great option. Personally, I am happy to forgo the pleasures of drinking imported beers for the pleasure of drinking a natural product. I feel much the same about all processed food - and beer is a food. |
