Interesting article on german beer

.... and to preempt a potential reply to this I would argue that this variety does work well for Franconia.  Aside from brewery closures due to old age, health violations, lack of money, etc. a worldwide market for their beers has developed that is there for them to exploit.  Just last night I had a Mahr's U and Schlenkerla Helles on tap at a pub in Massachusetts.
