Being one of few regular real ales where I live I have had lots of ringwood. All their beers used to be pretty good, nothing exceptional but solid and well made. Until of course the brewery was sold to marstons and these days I don't drink it. I'm not sure whether Mr Austin had a hand in this sale or not but it certainly wasn't made in the best interests of the brewery or the drinker, that's for sure. Shipyard brewery in Portland Maine still brew old thumper, also the name of a ringwood beer, which I believe is a tribute using the same yeast. I think Mr Austin played a part in est shipyard. |
