| The name Maibock is a little bit misleading. Only few breweries start to offer their "Maibocks" at the 1th may. So the brewery Zehendner in Mönchsambach. The bigger breweries, p.e. Hofbräu in Munch, start earlier. They use distribution channels like shops. And in the shops the customers like to buy before the time (as xmas chocolate in October). The second reason for earlier offers (February to April) is that the demand for stronber beers in hot days go down. So it's dangerous to offer bocks to late. The Bockbieranstich of Hummel is in the second half of April ("Heller Maibock"). They have also (starting at Ashwednesday) a smoke double bock ("Räucherator Doppelbock"), a strong version of their smoke beer "Räucherla". The "Räucherator" is for me to extreme, but some foreigners like it. And then there is a season of wheat bocks and some bottom fermented bocks, starting with the Ashwednesday or the Josefi day in March, p.e. Huppendorfer Josefibock, Keesmann Josefibock and Mahrs Weisser Bock (a darf wheat bock), Reckendorfer Weizenbock fromt the Schloßbrauerei Reckendorf, a very good wheat bock (I don't like their other beers).. 1.5.14: Brewery Zehendner in Mönchsambach, availabe also on tip in the Café Abseits. The Weiherer Bock isn't a seasonal bock, is available the whole year, but the brewery like to make a bockbieranstich as an event in the spring and the automn. The brewery Hölzlein in Lohndorf is brewing their automn pale bock a second time (Bockbieranstich: 9th March 2014). Available also in the Café Abseits on tap (and maybe in bottles until May). The bocks from automn are sold. But the Café Abseits will have (maybe): - Spezial Bock - Schlenkerla Doppelbock Eiche. And under the table I have (maybe) some other, older bocks from the last seaon(s). | ||||||||||||
