"You mean you write in English what you interpret from Jürgen or Gerhard and then translate that into German to check? Interesting. " Yeah I've got a handful of FB friends that are German (including Jürgen and Gerhard) so when they post I do make an attempt to read it (translate it into English - mostly in my head not in writing) and sometimes practice the pronunciation. Then check the online translator to see how close I came (understanding the translators are poor). It's a little thing but it's just one more thing to keep the German language in front of me every week and stay familiar with it and pick up or reinforce a word or phrase here and there. This on top of the countless hours perusing the various brewery and Franconian tourist websites reading them over and over again as I daydream about my next trip ... and using Rosetta Stone of course. I can honestly say that after 4-5 years of taking Spanish in high school and college and visiting grandparent in Puerto Rico for 19 years I am more familiar now with German than Spanish. Beer is a great motivator! |
