IPAs ABVs IBUs

6-7% ABV is absolutely typical for American IPA. The most sublime Bridgeport (Portland, OR, brewmaster Ockert is an Anglophile IIRC) is around 5.5% and is...sublime.

Friday's batch of golden ale here at home received only half the normal amount of hops (Chinook, Centennial, Citra), and still came out to 60 (theoretical) IBUs and 8.4% Stammwürze (1.034 OG). Mrs wanted me to try my hand at a milder batch. It's drinking lovely, for a 4 day old beer. And yes, it is hoppy enough.
