And another thing to rise from our exciting discussion in Spezial (J. and Frank with head in hands at this point) was the question of the temperature of water for home brewing using malt extract. I have now found a few sets of instructions from old kits (a couple of Coopers and a Brewferm from my attempt at Duvel) and both are pretty similar. Essentially, stand the can containing the extract in boiling water, so that you can get it out of the can, empty the contents into your brewing vessel and swill out the contents with more hot water. Then top up with warm water to bring up to required quantity in order to achieve a temperature of 20 to 25C, then pitch in the yeast. Maintain temperature level at 21 - 27C - I use a brew belt - and that's it, no boiling! |
