Yes. The problem is that originally the word "Zwickel" describes the tapping of beer from the storage tank, p.e. if You visit a brewery and the brewer give You a glas of a new beer or a new batch of beer which isn't ready or not filled in bottles or barrels, maybe You visit a brewery before the Bockbieranstich and the brewer want to let You taste the new bock before the Bockbiernstich. But actually some breweries use the name Zwickel as a (fake) beer style. P.e. the Brauhaus Binkert (MainSeidla) has offered a unfiltered version of their pils (MainSeidla Orginal) at ther brewpub (tasting room) as "Zwickelbier". But it wasn't tapped from the storage tank but from barrels. Now they fill this unfiltered version and sell it as "Kellerbier". Other breweries use the name "Zwickel" also for bottled versions, p.e. Adler Bräu Stettfeld Stöpflder Zwickel. The question how to name beers is more a marketing decision. The same with: Kellerbier, Landbier. Zwickel, Kellerbier, Landbier give an appearance of country, primitive, traditional also for beers from industrial breweries. |
