| Took a walk down the lane that runs behind both Neder and Hebendanz yesterday morning and was surprised to find the gates to Hebendanz open and the brewery seemingly in full swing. One of men working there spoke English so I asked him about the situation. Apparently, the current (now probably former) owner has gone bust but that they are able to keep the brewing side going but not the stube. He said that they hoped (for the sake of their jobs) to have new owners in 3 months. I assume that the company must be in some form of receivership and perhaps the adminstrators want to keep it going so that it can be sold as a going concern. He confirmed also that the only outlet for their Bier vom Fass was Schloessle but that they keep supply botted beer to retailers. So, bad news for a visit to the stube but at least it seems that something might be salvaged from the wreckage. In the meantime, we can still visit Schloessle, which is pleasant enough if a little odd at times -but, then, so was Hebendanz! Didn't ask about the outlet on Kellerwald but that's possibly owned separately and might still be going, though it is getting late in the season. Will investigate at the weekend. |
