Lucky boy - hope you get good weather and don't get rained out of your tent. Seems absolutely beautiful at the moment but can change in a flash in the south-west - a bit like here. Just for a comparison and to show how real ale has advanced (mainly through the efforts of CAMRA), we went on a couple of holidays in Cornwall in the 1970s and were lucky to find any real ale. My CAMRA guide for 1980 says: 'Cornwall is dominated by three brewers - St. Austell, Devenish and Courage. All 3 sell only pressurised beer in the majority of their houses!' How times have changed for the better. Mind you, Padstow was a quaint little village in those days, where you could mix with the locals and even take part in an impromptu 'hobby-hoss' at midnight! No Rick Stein restaurant then but I have enjoyed his BBC programme on Indian and Indian cooking. Reading back through the old CAMRA guides is quite fascinating! |
