Yes, it was a good day, thanks again to Juergen. It was a shame that Scharp at Heiligedorf was unexpectedly closed, as were a train of other gastaette in the area. But Sesslach was absolutely marvellous, a real jewel of a small city. Walking around was like being on the set of a 1960s Hammer horror, all half-timbered buildings and cobbled streets, really atmospheric. Great to find the brauhaus open and a really friendly brewer. We had a small sample of the beer, which was 100% pils malt and Halletauer hops. Very nice, refreshing, abd light yellow in colour. This was quite different from the beer sampled in Reinscheid (typing this without checking name!), which was distincly brown and very similar to Escahwo zoigl, so must include Munchener malt. It was equally tasty. Unlike Eschawo, the yeast is added in the brauerei before being taken to the stube for lagering. After the disappointments at so many brauerei, it was great to find Ebing open. Super place, yes, I think the floor was made of wood, Nick, as with all the other internal fittings. Because of the 'no dogs inside' policy, we ate and drank in the courtyard, which was also quite atmospheric. Tobar (the mad kellerhund) barked a 'welcome' to everyone coming through the door and then wanted to lick them to death! The dunkles beer was lovely and we felt sorry that Juergen had to restrict his intake. All in all, a super day, and a great finale to our holiday. |
