Thanks, i was lucky, it sinks in a little once you get home. Re helmets, I guess that you associate their protection with car/bike collisions, and when cycling cross country and quiet roads just don't feel the need. Completely illogical as helmets are pretty ineffective in car collisions compared with all the other injuries possible. Clearly though they are most effective when you fall off as I did. Anyway, I will cycle again in bamberg, but will be wearing a helmet. Some lessons are learnt the hard way.
