Drunk Driving - What happens to tourists from outside Germany?

I would also assume this. I don't know the answer, I suppose this is something interested parties should look into before traveling here and hiring a car. But of course, that's an ex-pat living here, not a tourist. They did take his US licence though. Reading that reminds me that of course, you (figurative) as a tourist have no right to expect to retain your US driver's licence if you commit a crime here. Why shouldn't the police take it from you? It's what you use to drive legally as a tourist.
