Just drunk a bottle of the above from a small brewery in Munchsteinach, just north of Neuhaus an der Aisch. I'm not sure if its a style that will catch on, its literally 50/50 mix of pils and Weisse bier. It does exactly what it says on the tin, but I'm not sure of the purpose. It's a bit like the black IPA phenomenon for me; if I want a weisse bier, I'll get a weisse bier, if I want a really good pils, I'll go to the Czech Republic. I'm not sure when it would be mixed, but clearly as Weisse bier is almost always top fermented and Pils is bottom fermented (and requires a longer maturation time), they would be mixed after brewing, as in a cocktail. There are certainly worse beer cocktails in Germany, but it just tastes bland, though pleasant enough. Anyone else had any? I seem to recall Brau Wastl in Forchheim brew one. |
