Regensburg

Written about this before. Spent two weeks there a few years ago and was really disappointed. The old city is vastly over restored, making it hard at times to see what is new and what is old. Yes, the Dom is impressive but where in Germany isn't there an impressive church of some kind! It is surrounded by lovely countryside and a picture of the Danube a few miles out of town has been my screensaver for a number of years. It's good for biking as the countryside is generally reasonably flat. The 3 breweries are good but not outstanding and there is a really nice Kneitinger beer cellar (fortunately, it was near our apartment), while the 2 brew pubs are ok but expensive. Can't comment on the bratwurst shed for obvious reasons but it seems to be really just a tourist trap. Our host told us that there were more bars in Regensburg than any other city in Germany. Well, if that is the case, it's a poor advert for German bars. Best thing about Regensburg was that we went on a day trip to Eschawo and, as they say (awful cliche coming up), the rest is history! Go for a few days and see for yourself, be interested in your opinion.
