Unlocking Cell Phones Now Illegal in the US |

| It's not the unlocking is the problem, it is unlocking by somebody other than the carrier who did the SIM lock in the first place. AT&T unlocked my iPhone 3GS (not that I use it any more) and friends and family have reported that T-Mobile willingly unlocked their phones (once off contract). My current phone (Galaxy Note) was bought unlocked. The unlocking thing is the same part of the DCMA that says you can't remove copy protection from software (and CDs and DVDs for that matter). Of course that never happens :) |
